Old St. Louis Asylum Tour

Old St. Louis Asylum Tour In-Person

A Historical Exploration of the Old St. Louis Insane Asylum!

Join us for a thought-provoking journey into the past as we explore the historic St. Louis Insane Asylum, or "Arsenal Street Asylum" established in 1869. This guided tour will offer a unique perspective on mental health treatment and the evolution of care over time.

Through a combination of historical narratives, archival research, and architectural exploration, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the asylum's significance and the lives of those who were once confined within its walls.

  • Historical Overview: Learn about the asylum's founding, its role in the development of mental health care, and the changing approaches to treatment.
  • Archival Discoveries: Examine original documents that provide a glimpse into the asylum's history.
  • Iconic Architecture: Admire the asylum's impressive architecture, including the dome, and learn about its design and construction.

This tour offers a valuable opportunity to connect with the past and gain a new appreciation for the history of mental health care.
