The History and People of Cahokia Mounds

The History and People of Cahokia Mounds In-Person

The remains of the most sophisticated prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico are preserved at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. Within the 2,200-acre tract, located a few miles west of Collinsville, Illinois, lie the archaeological remnants of the central section of the ancient settlement that is today known as Cahokia. Explore the rich history of Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, learn about the Mississippian Culture (A.D. 900–1350), the people who built it, the types of mounds they created, and their vibrant way of life.

This program also offers a look at current site operations and ongoing preservation efforts.
